Philosophy of Journalism

At The Cold Take, we believe that news should be comprised of what we know, not what we think. We don’t depend on AP, Reuters, NPR, Fox, CCN, WSJ or ESPN for the details in our stories. Our goal is to use only what we refer to as Primary Sources to gather information.

For our purposes, a Primary Source is a press conference, court document, official press release, legal document or first hand account. We spend all week watching legislative hearings, protests, political speeches, courtroom feeds, and of course sports.

You might notice that we don’t report all of the ‘bombshell’ news throughout the week. Often we see stories reported as news that The Cold Take considers hearsay, conjecture or opinion. Social media posts from politicians asserting various action, without legal documents to back them up, do not meet the bar for us to publish.

We don’t add our opinions to stories, so we can only tell you what the market did, not what it might do. We will only tell you that a law was passed, not how it might effect you.

We also put tremendous effort into choosing language and sentence structure that doesn’t add implicit bias to our reporting. Recognizing that it’s extremely difficult to identify bias in our own words, we welcome feedback if you feel that a story presents as opinion or leans in one direction or another.

Finally, we welcome submissions, corrections, additions and suggestions. We might miss a detail in a story, or we might miss a story in it’s entirety. Let us know what you think we we will try to make corrections. You can email our editor directly, or connect with us on X, Truth Social or Instagram.
